On Monday 21st June, newly elected Senedd Member for South Wales Central Rhys ab Owen visited Central Pharmacy in Ystrad, Rhondda, to see first hand how they dealt with the Covid pandemic and how their services are changing.   David Williams from Central Pharmacy said:

“Rhys’ grandfather was a community pharmacist right here in Ystrad, Rhondda so it was an absolute pleasure to welcome him on one of his first constituency visits. We are grateful for his thanks to our staff for the work they did in keeping services open and accessible throughout the Covid pandemic.”

Rhys ab Owen MS said:

“It was great to re-trace my family’s past by visiting a pharmacy in Ystrad. These community pharmacies have been serving their communities for decades and played a crucial role in maintaining services during Covid-19. They should be given the resources and the support that they require to continue their good work and to enable them to fulfil their incredible potential.”

Rhodri Thomas, Associate Director for Contractor Engagement at Community Pharmacy Wales, said:

“We are grateful that Rhys ab Owen took time out as a new Senedd Member to hear about our work. He grasped the way in which the community pharmacy network has the potential to take on an ever increasing role in providing health advice in a convenient high street setting. Community pharmacists are anchors of being health and local economies, and Rhys understood the way in which they are an ever increasing first port of call.”
