Novo nordisk recently launched PenCycle, an insulin pen recycling initiative which is now live for all pharmacy customers across the UK.

Why PenCycle?
Every year in the UK, these pens are among 23 million medical pens that end up incinerated or sent to landfill as, until now, there has not been a viable recycling alternative. This is not sustainable. Today, Novo nordisk supply over half the world’s insulin.

Nb: Only empty Novo Nordisk diabetes (insulin/GLP-1) and weight management pens can be returned to pharmacies as part of PenCycle and patients must remove the needle from their pen and make sure their pen is empty. Please ask patients NOT to include the needle in the return box.
How it works:
There is a really useful video describing the initiative which you may choose to watch by clicking on the following link: https://youtu.be/ey_DuxMG2-4
