On Wednesday 28th July, Jack Sargeant MS visited Boots in Shotton in his constituency to meet with the Boots team and Judy Thomas, Director of Contractor Services at Community Pharmacy Wales Jack Sargeant MS, who has recently joined the Health and Social Care Committee in the Senedd, said
“Since becoming a Member of the Senedd I have taken a keen interest in community pharmacy and its potential to provide a wider range of accessible health solutions in convenient settings. The whole community pharmacy network has done Wales proud by keeping their doors open during the pandemic and expanding the range of services which they offer. Boots in Shotton now supplies lateral flow tests free of charge and I recognise the sector is keen to play a role in doing Covid booster vaccinations too, in the same way they play a vital role in delivering flu vaccinations.
David Eaves, Boots Area Manager for North East & Mid Wales, said:
“It was good to have the opportunity to host Senedd member Jack Sargeant at Boots in Shotton.  We hope he was able to gain a deeper understanding of how new technology and new services are allowing the pharmacy to better focus on serving the community, alleviating the pressure on GP services.
“We also explained how Boots is actively  supporting those suffering domestic abuse through the use of safe space in store through the Live Fear Free initiative. This is a perfect example of community pharmacies playing a strong part in communities as well as being pharmacies.”
Judy Thomas from Community Pharmacy Wales said:
“Jack Sargeant has been a long term friend of Community Pharmacy and we warmly congratulate him upon his election as a member of the Health and Social Services Committee in the Senedd. He really grasps the ambition and enthusiasm of community pharmacy teams to play a bigger role in providing health care services. We very much look forward to working with Jack on a constructive, enabling agenda for the further development of community pharmacy.”
