On Monday 12 July, Welsh Conservative leader Andrew RT Davies visited Well Pharmacy in Llantwit Major to hear from the staff about how they had dealt with the Covid pandemic, and to understand more about the way in which community pharmacy was changing.    Well in Llantwit Major is one of several community pharmacies in Cardiff and Vale Health Board which has been commissioned to deliver Covid vaccinations in south Wales. They also deliver a strong list of consultations to meet the health needs of the local population, but are keen to do more.

Andrew RT Davies said, “I’m extremely grateful to Neal and the team at Well Pharmacy in Llantwit for taking the time to meet.

“Community pharmacies have played a key role throughout the pandemic, including through administering COVID vaccinations and the provision of lateral flow tests, but they’re keen to do more. The whole team have gone above and beyond the call of duty and I’d like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to them.”

Neal Cadden, Senior Regional Operations Manager – Wales from Well Pharmacy said:

“We really appreciate Andrew taking the time to visit our Well Llantwit Pharmacy, which has adapted effectively to run one of Wales’ Covid Vaccination Clinics, operating from a community pharmacy setting. I know it gave all our pharmacy team a boost and highlighted the importance of the work we are doing. The past year Community Pharmacy continues to play a pivotal role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve, expanding our range of services and rising to the challenge of unprecedented levels of demand for both dispensing and consultation services. We look forward to continuing to deliver at the top of our skill level under the new community pharmacy contract that is currently being negotiated between Community Pharmacy Wales and the Welsh Government.”

Russell Goodway from Community Pharmacy Wales said:
“The Community Pharmacy network is always grateful for Andrew’s interest in and understanding of the potential of community pharmacy. He has visited several contractors during the pandemic and seen how the network had stepped up to the mark and extended provision. Well in Llantwit Major has been delivering Covid vaccines and is now distributing lateral flow tests. Many community pharmacists are also keen to be part of the Covid booster vaccinations in the autumn, and Andrew understood our potential to play a full part as an accessible high street resource.”
