James Davies MP visited Rowlands pharmacy in Denbigh in January to see first hand how services were expanding there.

Commenting on the visit he said:

“As an experienced health professional, I know first hand how important good collaborative working is between primary care providers, and so I was pleased to hear about the partnership approach being undertaken between GPs and community pharmacists in Denbighshire. The new sore throat test and treat service being rolled out is a great example of how community pharmacists can help take the pressure off GP surgeries by offering more health interventions through the common ailments service.

“I was also interested to learn more about issues in relation to recruiting community pharmacists in North Wales, especially in relation to their registration, and I will be raising this as an ongoing issue.”

Judy Thomas from Community Pharmacy Wales, said:

“Community pharmacy has over many years expanded what we can and do in order to help reduce the burden on GPs and out of hours care. It also provides a variety of basic health services in a convenient drop in location, redesigning access to health care for the twenty first century. We are grateful to Dr Davies for his continued commitment to the primary care sector.”
