On Monday 21st June, newly elected Senedd Member for the Rhondda, Buffy Williams MS, visited Central Pharmacy in Ystrad, Rhondda, to see first hand how they dealt with the Covid pandemic and how their services are changing. Commenting on the visit, Buffy Williams MS said:
“We are extremely fortunate to have such a well-established community pharmacy who go above and beyond to support the local community. The determination of the team at Central Pharmacy to adapt and learn throughout COVID to meet the needs of service users has been invaluable, David and the Team are an asset to Rhondda.”
David Williams from Central Pharmacy said:
“Buffy Williams is a regular user of Central Pharmacy in Ystrad and saw first hand the way in which we’ve kept services open and accessible throughout the Covid pandemic. As the first independent prescriber in the Rhondda primary care cluster, I was able to explain the expanding nature of the community pharmacy network and our potential to take on an ever increasing role in providing health advice in a convenient high street setting.”
Rhodri Thomas, Associate Director for Contractor Engagement at Community Pharmacy Wales, said:
“We are grateful that Buffy Williams took time out as a new Senedd Member to hear about our work. She fully understood the importance of ‘community’ in community pharmacy. We are lynchpins of the high street as well as the network of NHS services, and over the next five years our role will only grow and mature.”
