On Monday 21st June, newly elected Senedd Member for Bridgend Sarah Murphy visited Porthcawl Pharmacy at Porthcawl Medical Centre, to see first hand how they dealt with the Covid pandemic and how their services are changing.     Sarah Murphy, Member of the Senedd for Bridgend and Porthcawl said:

“I was delighted to visit the pharmacy with Community Pharmacy Wales to see the fantastic work they are doing there. I was particularly impressed by ‘Bob the robot’, an automated robot that helps organise medication which gives the pharmacists a helping hand to be able to focus on and deliver other important services.

“I want to thank all the incredible staff for their hard work during the pandemic and for ensuring the local community kept a dedicated service throughout in providing prescriptions and healthcare. Diolch.”

Victoria Reed of Porthcawl Pharmacy said:

“The pandemic period has been challenging not only in terms of the increased volume of demands and prescriptions during the last year, but also because we relocated during the pandemic. It is a testament to the strength and professionalism of the community pharmacy team at Porthcawl Pharmacy that we achieved all this and kept our doors open continuously. We are grateful to Sarah Murphy for her thanks to our staff for the work they did in keeping services open and accessible throughout the Covid pandemic.”

Russell Goodway, Chief Executive of Community Pharmacy Wales, said:

“Sarah saw how the Porthcawl Pharmacy really exemplifies the most modern face of community pharmacy in Wales. Not only does the new premises come with three consultation rooms, but there is an automated support robot to assist with the dispensing process, whilst releasing the pharmacists to deliver the fullest possible range of services in their premises. They are leading the way in demonstrating the potential and reality of community pharmacy in the future.”
