On Monday 21st June, newly elected Senedd Member for South Wales West, Luke Fletcher MS, visited Sheppards community pharmacy in Llanharry, to see first hand how they dealt with the Covid pandemic and how their services are changing.     Luke Fletcher MS said:

“It was great to see the work that the community pharmacy in Llanharry is doing. Community pharmacies were a lifeline to many during the lockdowns and will continue to vital to our communities as we emerge from the pandemic.

It is vital that community services such as these are supported and maintained in towns and villages across Wales”

Gareth Hughes, Superintendent of Sheppards, said:

“We are grateful that Luke Fletcher took time out as a new Senedd Member to hear about our work at Sheppards in Llanharry. He grasped the way in which the community pharmacy network has the potential to take on an ever increasing role in providing health advice in a convenient high street setting, and we are grateful for his thanks to our staff for the work they did in keeping services open and accessible throughout the Covid pandemic.”

Russell Goodway, Chief Executive of Community Pharmacy Wales, said:

“Luke understood not only the importance of community pharmacies as a health resource, but their significance as an economic player on the high street. In a small community like Llanharry they are vital to building and maintaining footfall for neighbouring businesses too. In a world where high street banking and other core services have diminished, community pharmacy is still there, and plays a vital energising role.”
