CAS – Management of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

CAS – Management of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) will become a MANDATORY element of the Common Ailments Service (CAS) from 01 October 2025. The CCPS service specification has been reviewed and an updated version (version 2.4) is now available on the NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership website. The updated specification (version 2.4) will come into force on 1 October 2025 and the existing CCPS service specification (version 2.3) will cease to be valid from midnight 30 September 2025.

Contractors are urged to encourage their pharmacists to undertake the training and apply for their pharmacy premises to be listed as soon as possible.

Requirements for PHARMACISTS wishing to provide UTI:

1.NADEX Login and NCSA generic skills accreditation; AND

2.Accreditation for the CAS service itself: AND

3.Completion of the HEIW UTI e-learning

If a pharmacist is unable to satisfy the above requirements, on the 1 October, they will no longer be able to provide any element of the CAS and their access to the CAS module in Choose Pharmacy will be suspended.

Requirements for PHARMACIES to list their premises for the provision of UTI:

1.The pharmacy must be already listed for the provision of the Clinical Community Pharmacy Service (CCPS)

2.Must have the correct equipment and procedures in place to enable provision of the service from the preferred start date

3.Provided that the above requirements are satisfied, complete the Clinical Community Pharmacy Service (CCPS) – Component Premises Listing Form to list the pharmacy for the service prior to the 1 October.

Any pharmacy not signed up to the service prior to the 1 October will NOT be able to provide CAS and may NOT be able to provide any of the CCPS services resulting in significant loss of income from delivery of the services and the continuity payment.
