CAS – Management of Sore Throat

Requirements for PHARMACISTS wishing to provide CAS – Management of sore throat:

1. NADEX Login and NCSA generic skills accreditation; AND
2. Accreditation for the CAS service itself: AND
3. Completion of the HEIW Sore throat e-learning; AND
4. Up-to-date annual Basic Life Support (BLS ) accreditation

Annual Basic Life Support (BLS) accreditation:

BLS accreditation has been a requirement for provision of CAS – Management of sore throat (formerly known as Sore Throat Test and Treat) since October 2022. There are two options for BLS training:

• Complete HEIW BLS training

or;

• Complete private provider BLS training

*Basic Life Support (BLS) training includes both e-learning and face-to-face elements. If anyone is having difficulty booking on to a BLS session please email info@cpwales.org.uk or call 02920442070 as soon as possible.

If anyone requires adaptations to face-to-face BLS training due to a disability under the Equality Act 2010 please contact HEIW.pharmacy@wales.nhs.uk

If a pharmacist is unable to satisfy the above requirements, they will no longer be able to provide any element of the CAS and their access to the CAS module in Choose Pharmacy will be suspended.
