Plaid Cymru Conference

15/03/2017
Community Pharmacy Wales made quite an impact at Plaid Cymru conference in Newport on the first weekend in March.

Not only did we attract a range of Assembly Members to visit the stall, including health spokesperson Rhun ap Iorwerth AM and finance committee chair Simon Thomas AM, but we also sponsored a centre stage debate as part of conference on Modernising Primary Care in Wales.

This is a topic of particular interest here in Wales, While the amount invested in the community pharmacy sector is being cut by 11% this year in England, in Wales the Welsh Government with Plaid Cymru support is maintaining the existing level of investment and asking community pharmacists to deliver extra services. For the first time ever Wales is getting its own pharmacy contract and this panel discussion looked at the opportunities this offers for us to innovative and develop a model of primary care which suits the needs of the people of Wales.

Ably chaired by Philippa Ford from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, the panel included Rhodri Thomas from CPW; Dr Rebecca Payne, the chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners in Wales; and Dr Dai Lloyd AM, chair of the Health Committee in the Assembly.
