The first policy review into the delivery and potential of Community Pharmacy

"Ian Cowan, Chair of Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW), has  welcomed the decision of the new Assembly Health and Social Care Committee to conduct its first policy review into the delivery and potential of Community Pharmacy in Wales. Mr Cowan said that this will be an ideal opportunity at the start of this new Welsh Government’s term to set out in the public realm the important healthcare work already being done by the network of 708 community pharmacies in towns and villages across Wales. He said that it will also provide the opportunity for the Assembly Committee to examine the further potential for a range of community pharmacy services, many of which were anticipated at the time of the 2005 contract but are still not operational across Wales. Introducing these services via the community pharmacy network  would transform the delivery of cost effective, professional healthcare services, available 6 or 7 days a week, in locations, where people live, work, shop and travel and without the necessity for difficult-to-get appointments”, he claimed.
