Bank Holiday Opening Hours 2011

CPW have revised the bank holiday notification form
Following the announcement of the date for the Royal Wedding and the additional bank holiday in 2011, we have revised the bank holiday notification form.
As the day of the Royal Wedding is designated as a bank holiday, pharmacies are not required to open in order to satisfy the obligation to open for 40 (or 100) hours during that week.  The hours the pharmacy would ordinarily be open are counted towards the core hours commitment.
As a result of the additional bank holiday there will be four bank holidays within a two week period -
Good Friday
Easter Monday
Royal Wedding
Early May Bank Holiday
Plus Easter Sunday which is a special day recognised in our contractual framework (this is not, strictly speaking a bank holiday - but it is treated as such for the purpose of calculating hours).
LHBs will need to plan, because of the number of days when there will be no pharmacies open.  CPW encourages pharmacy contractors to submit a bank holiday notification form, setting out the opening intentions during 2011.  This is not mandatory within the terms of service, but will help ensure the LHB has information about services that are available.  This avoids the LHB undertaking a scattergun approach of issuing directions to open, even though there may be sufficient pharmacies already open.
For those of you with an eye to the longer term, there is also an additional bank holiday in 2012 for the Queen's diamond jubilee.  The spring bank holiday has been deferred until the week of the Jubilee so there are two consecutive days that week designated as bank holidays.
