Pharmacy welcomes Welsh Government new action on Eye Health

The new 5 Year "Eye Health Care Delivery Plan for wales"
Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW) has welcomed the Welsh Government’s new 5 year “Eye Health Care Delivery Plan for Wales” published today (18 September 2013).
The eye health plan proposes the development of new ways of working and greater collaboration both within the health sector, between primary and secondary care and also with local government and the third sector. Pharmacy is given a strong role in the new delivery plan to raise awareness of eye health throughout life and so contribute to reduced sight loss,  and also to collaborate with professional healthcare colleagues to ensure patients take sight tests and use properly the medicines they are given for their eyes.
The Plan was launched at the Wales Eye Care Conference by Welsh Health and Social Care Minister Mark Drakeford. Speaking at the conference at Cardiff University, CPW Vice Chair Marc Donovan, said: “We very much welcome this Eye Health Plan and especially the strong role for community pharmacies. We feel that the Plan also formalises the joint working between primary care pharmacy and primary care optometrists that was developed so successfully in the recent LOOK AFTER YOUR EYES national community pharmacy public health campaign.”
