About two million people in the UK have hearing aids. Hearing aids make sounds louder and clearer, more than half a million people in Wales havie a hearing loss - that's about 1 in 6 of the population. Yet hearing loss is often so easily overlooked or misunderstood, causing people to experience unnecessary distress, frustration or isolation.
Lesley Griffths AM visited Lloyds pharmacy in Cardiff to lend support to Deaf Awareness week in Wales. During the visit she undertook the internet and telephone based hearing checks designed to test peoples hearing in the comfort of their own home or at the pharmacy. She is hoping that this will encorouge more people to check their hearing on a regular basis as prevalence of hearing loss will increase by 14% every 10 years and by 2030, adult onset hearing loss will be in the top 10 disease burdens in the UK.
This Public Health Campaign encourages people to 'Act Now' by taking our hearing check. This can be a first step to acting on hearing loss.
