AM and MP Visits

Byron Davies MP welcomes pharmacy as first port of call

On a visit to Ty’r Felin Pharmacy in Gorseinon, Gower MP Byron Davies saw first hand how the face of community pharmacy is changing and the benefits that the new Choose Pharmacy IT platform will bring. The Choose Pharmacy service will see pharmacists take responsibility for managing a range of minor ailments, allowing people will to see their pharmacist for free treatment instead of making an appointment to see their GP, freeing up GP time to deal with people with more complex needs.

Commenting on the visit Byron Davies MP said: “I lived for some years in Romania and there it is the pharmacist not the doctor who is the first port of call. I’m glad to see that approach is now being taken in both England and Wales, and I will be pressing the case for a speedy and full roll out of Choose Pharmacy across the whole of the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board area. It is worrying to hear that not everyone in the health board has been fully supportive of this major innovation and as the Member of Parliament for Gower I will champion this matter to make sure that everyone in my constituency gets equal access to a better, more accessible health service through Choose Pharmacy.”
