The Love your lungs campaign is one of the contractual public health campaigns in 2012/13.

This public health camapign is called LOVE YOUR LUNGS and runs for 2 weeks from Monday 12th November to Sunday 25th November 2012. Health Boards have sent out all the campaign packs and all are addressed to Public Health Champion. If you have not received your campaign pack let us know at info@cpwales.org.uk. The campaign includes a short questionnaire based respiratory health test. It is aimed at identifying patients with respiratory health problems, specifically a persistent cough that can lead to COPD.

As a back-up to the pack delivered to you by the Health Board you will find below:
1. pdf of poster to display in store,
2. postcard with test questionnaire to be done by one of the pharmacy team,
3. briefing for pharmacies.
4. evaluation form

PHW have tried to design this campaign so that it assists pharmacies in directing relevant patients to taking an MUR, and also having an NHS flu jab if you are one of the 130 contractors doing these. Many of those with COPD or other respiratory problems are smokers and so there is also the opportunity to promote your smoking cessation services and products.

This campaign is supported by the British Lung Foundation Wales (BLF Wales). If there is a BLF Breathe Easy group in your area, they may want to make arrangements to visit a pharmacy and find out more about relevant pharmacy services for people with respiratory health problems. CPW can assist in arranging local publicity for such a store visit by BLF if you contact us.

The campaign is also being supported by Tim Rhys Evans and the award winning Only Men Aloud choir. Tim and members of the choir are taking part in some events to launch the campaign and are working with CPW to arrange a free prize draw for all patients who complete the breath questionnaire test. The prizes will be tickets to Only Men Aloud Christmas concerts in Cardiff and Llandudno (otherwise sold out) and new Only Boys Aloud CDs, being launched during the campaign. This is an innovative element of the campaigns which CPW is trialling to see if it assists in incentivising patients to take part in the public health campaigns. It will also ensure that all contractors can benefit from the support of Only Men Aloud. Taking part in the prize draw is not compulsory for contractors as part of the contractual campaign. Further information will be available on the CPW contractors' website.
